THE DEVELOPMENT OF LIVESTOCK PRODUCTION IN ASIA

Summary
Population total and in agriculture, livestock numbers and its production in the Asian continent were evaluated for the period from 1970 to 1985. The number of animals and their production were calculated per 1000 persons. Percentage of economically active population in agriculture declined gradually except the countries of East Asia. The number of ruminants went down, whilst that of pigs and poultry showed a remarkable increase. The production of beef+buffalo meat followed a descending tendency, production of mutton went up slightly. Pig and poultry nio«i! output increased considerably. Milk production did not show remarkable variation during the period. Significantly higher production of hen eggs coincides with increasing poultry stocks. Cheese and butter production was moderately higher.
