DEVELOPMENT OF AGRATIAN REFORM AND PRESENT SITUATION OF AGRICULTURAL CO-OPERATIVES IN NICARAGUA

Summary
Situation in agriculture towards the end of Somoza's
dictatorship is described. In that period, the land was increasingly concentrated
in the hands of the largest landowners while increasing numbers of the snail
and aiddle fanners were pauperized. The Sandinist Government has prepared and
implemented an agrarian reform to solve these problems. The agrarian reform
expropriates mainly the land lying fallow, rented land, land without intensive
exploitation. Suek land is allotted, first of all, to various types of agricultural
co-operatives. Hence, co-operatives make a significant contribution to the cultivation
of the land that has been unexploited.
