AGRICULTURE IN THE LEAST DEVELOPED COUNTRIES AND ITS ROLE IN THE GENERATION OF THE GROSS NATIONAL PRODUCT AT PRESENT AND IN THE LONG-TERM OUTLOOK

Summary
Agriculture in the developing countries is one of
the key sectors of the national economy, employing some 32 to 92% of the economically
active population, and contributing to the gross domestic product by 4 to 62
%, while the share of the industries in it ranges from 1 to 17%. The paper deals
with the present role in the GDP creation in the LDCs, analyzes the major controlling
factors and developmental trends, and considers the future role of agriculture
in the economy of the developing countries, the overall development of which
will surely depend to a large measure on the optimum mobilisation of all natural
resources and a comprehensive development of their all production sectors* The
world will aost likely be divided into promising and non-promising /highly productive
and marginally productive/ agricultural regions t and the on-going technological
and green revolution plus optimum utilization and conservation of natural resources
and the environment will be playing a major role.
