STORABILITY OF THE FRUITS OF EIGHT GRAPEFRUIT VARIETIES DIFFERING IN GROWTH
B. HRACHOVÁ, F. POSPÍŠIL
Summary
Storage of citrus fruits under natural conditions
is fairly common in many developing countries, owing to the lack of cold stores.
The effect of different rootstocks was studied as exerted on the storability
of the fruits of 8 grapefruit varieties under the tropical conditions of Ghana.
The rangpur, rough lemon and sweet orange rootstocks influence the weight of
the fruits of the engrafted grapefruit varieties, the transpiration of these
fruit during storage, and the length of time for which they can be stored. It
has been found that storability is determined by cultivation conditions, climate,
variety, rootstock and other factors and that it may be different in different
years.
