USING WINGED BEAN AS FODDER CROP
JAN MICHL
Abstract
A greenhouse trial was conducted to see how winged
bean would perform if groim as a fodder crop together with maize. Two seeds
of maize and two seeds of winged bean were planted at a 5Ox30 cm spacing. Different
fertilisation rates were used. Winged bean contributed 20. 31 - 23.19 % to the
total biomass harvested. High fertilisation rates did not reduce the proportion
of winged bean of the biomass produced. Annual or perennial mixtures of winged
bean and grasses can be a valuable forage source with a balanced nutrient ratio.
