AGRICULTURAL CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETIES IN SPAIN AND THE EC
JUAN F. JULIA IGUAL, RICARDO J. SERVER
Abstract
Agricultural co-operatives are an important factor
of agrarian development in EC countries in general and Spain in particular.
Development of agricultural co-operatives has entered a new stage; co-operatives
unify to form co-operative societies. There are 122 thousand such co-operative
societies, unifying 22 million people, i.e. 19 % of the population. The weight
agricultural co-operatives have in the economies of EC countries is perhaps
best characterised by their market share which ranges between 17 and 10O % in
different countries and different products.
