RECENT ADVANCES IN SELECTING TRACTORS FOR LARGE-SCALE PRODUCTION OF VEGETABLES IN THE SUBTROPICS
JOSEF OUBRECHT
Abstract
Supplies of fresh vegetables to urban centres in developing
countries are irregular and often lack the required structure. Another weakness
is that the vegetables that reach the consumer vary in quality. This is so because
the production is scattered among a number of small growers.
A specialized farm provides better conditions for regular supply and for maintaining
stable quality. Production on a large scale also makes it easier to find any
defect or fault before the batch goes to the market. The conclusion is that
in a frost-free region it is not difficult at present to build a specialized
vegetable farm to supply a city with vegetables all the year through.
