Abstract
In a test field of the Agricultural University in
Prague, five wheat cultivars, including 4 cultivars of durum wheat and 1 common
wheat, were studied for some characteristics important for the assessment of
the production processes and formation of the yield. The characteristics under
study included the leaf area index, dry matter formation, tillering potential,
potential and actual productivity, the grain yield obtained, and the thousand
seed weight. In the majority of comparisons, the durum wheat cultivars showed
a better leaf area index, dry matter production, stalk length and thousand seed
weight. However, they had a poorer tillering potential and a lower grain yield.
