RESERACH PROGRAM OF THE INSTITUTE OF TROPICAL AND SUBTROPICAL AGRICULTURE
HAVRLAND, B.
Abstract
Research activities of ITSA have always been oriented
to needs of tropical and subtropical countries. A newlv introduced all-university
structured research program was started in January 1999. The program's formulation
was ,,Supporting Sustainable Agricultural Development in Some Selected Third
World Countries in Line with the Economic Interests of Czech Republic".
The new Research Program approach especially considers joint research actions
of all the ITSA departments and a strict use of funding for the research abroad
or for its preparation. In principle, all the main objectives were regarded
during the first year of the Research Program Implementation, except for the
"Analyses of Technical-Economic Information". 3 Research Projects
were formulated b\ DTEDRA Department: "Technological-Managerial Computer
Program "AGRO-EXPERT"; "Development of Man Power and Employment
in Agricultural Engineering for Developing Countries"; "Technical-Economic
Information Collection and Analysis". Another 2 Research Projects have
been formulated and implemented by DTSC Department: "Line Selection from
Suitable Varieties from Selected Species of Vegetable for their Growing on Saline
Soils under Semi-arid Conditions in Republic of Namibia"; "Possibilities
of Introduction of Less-known Andes Crops as Perspective Vegetables for Czech
Republic" and, finally, 2 Research Projects were implemented b\ the DAPTS
Department: "Optimization of Broiler Chicken Nutrition under Heat Chock"
and "Optimization of Lamb Meet Production in Jordan with Use of Awassi
Breed and its Cross-breeds with Imported Breeds from Czech Republic". The
research co-operation established between ITSA and its partners during the first
phase created a base for the future. Searching new alternative sources of funding
has been recommended for responsible for the program and his co-researchers.
Continuation of all projects formulated within the research program as well
as kick off the third project (Technical-Economic Information Collection and
Analysis) at DTEDRA Department are recommended.
