Abstract
Experiments were made to estimate separately the amino
acid requirements of growing pigs for maintenance. In this paper, we would like
to present the results of the study on the maintenance requirements of isoleucine,
leucine and valise for growing pigs. In each experiment, 14 gifts Hampshire
x (Landrace x Large white) of 50 kg body weight were conducted in a research
facility of Biofaktory (Prague, Czech Republic) for nitrogen balance experiments
and they were divided into 5 groups in order to achieve a uniformity in body
weight, growth rate and general healthiness. The method of estimate were based
on the concept that maintenance requirement was estimated when nitrogen balance
is zero. The pigs were given the experimental diets at the amount of 1400 g
per day or at the rate of80-85 g /kg metabolic weight per day. These diets were
maintained constant during each 7 days period and their amount was based on
the weight of the animal at the beginning of the period. From the relationship
between amino acid intakes and nitrogen balance the regressive equations were
calculated by the least- squares method and the daily amino acid requirements
for maintenance were estimated to be isoleucine 18.8, leucine 32.98 and valise
23.15 mg/kg tf>'75/day.
