Abstract
Replicated yield trials were conducted at Badeggi
and Gadza in 1995 and 1996 respectively in central Nigeria. These were aimed
at selecting promising varieties as parents for hybridization and to be used
in gall midge endemic areas. At Badeggi, FARO 37 out-yielded other entries while
at Gadza TOX3 760-2-2-1-1-1 was superior in grain yield. Results have shown
that TOX3551-3-3-3-3 had the lowest percentage gall midge score at Badeggi while
Cisadane and TOX 3552-109-2-3-2 had the lowest score at 42 and 61 days after
transplanting respectively at Gadza.
