Abstract
Anthracnose caused by Colletotrichum graminicola (Ces) Wilson is the most important
sorghum disease in Nigeria. Field experiments -were conducted for 2 seasons
to study the severity of the disease on 17 world selected sorghum genotypes
in Nigeria as part of the international sorghum anthracnose screening programme.
Five of the 17 genotypes were found to be susceptible showing disease severity
of 50-70%, another five genotypes were intermediate in their reaction having
disease severity of 30-40% while the rest were classified resistant. The disease
was characterised by various symptoms which increased with age in susceptible
genotypes. The resistant genotypes were among those that produced high grain
yield.
