SOLAR RURAL ELECTRIFICATRION IN THE THIRD WORLD
KREPL V.
Abstract
The use of solar rural electrification in the third -world is an approach to
create and to keep a better planning society towards getting of sustainable
development. It is widely perceived to bring socio-economic and infrastructural
improvements to the rural areas of developing countries too. In that different
Government's Rural Electrification Masterplans aim to narrow the development
gap between the urban and rural areas, through the electrification of growth
points and business centres in agricultural field. The aim of this study is,
in base of realized studies, to establish, that the extension of solar photovoltaic
electricity contributes to improve the living standards of people in rural areas.
Two key aspects recur in the course of analysis, namely the issue of adequate
user education in terms of the capabilities of a solar home system, and the
importance of addressing rural electrification in the overall context of rural
development. This discussion covers the subject of electrifying rural areas
by means of solar photovoltaic energy addressing barriers and constraints to
rural electrification and the advance of solar photovoltaic system dissemination
to rural areas. An overview of the history of rural electrification in developing
countries is presented to set the research in context. The capabilities and
limitations of solar PV in the context of rural electrification are discussed
in general terms, and also the importance of understanding how PV can be made
to fit properly into this process. The main findings of the field based realized
research are presented, focused on what the beneficiaries considered to be the
most significant changes since the advent of PV in their area. The importance
of user education with regard to the use of these systems is also highlighted.
The report goes on to address a number of the other main considerations, including
the issues of the lack of rural purchasing power and how rural electrification
should fit into the overall context of rural development.
Key Words:
photovoltaic electricity, rural areas, development gap, living standard, solar
home system and rural electrification.
