Abstract
The aim of the experiment was testing of the fattening ability and carcass value indicators of the ram lambs descending from three sires in pen-fold grazing system. The experiment was performed with the ram lambs as a model with the anticipation to be exploited in arid regions of the Near East where there is an endevour to intensify the mutton sheep breeds rearing.
The average age and the average live weight of the ram lambs at the initiation of the experiment was 66.60 days and 20.73 kg respectively. After 68 days of the experiment when 4 ram lambs after each sire were taken for control slaughter , their average age was 134.60 days and their average live weight was 39.38 kg. The selection was within the range ± I (standard deviation) from the average live weight.
Total weight gain and average daily weight gain of the ram lambs after the individual sires was as follows: Ram lambs of the sire No.l. 19.90 ± 0.58 kg and 293 ± 8.62 g, ram lambs of the sire No. 3. 18.13 ± 1.01 kg and 267 ±14.08 g, ram lambs of the sire No. 5. 17.45 ± 2.24 kg and 257 ± 32.95 g respectively, however no significant differences between the sires were found. The highest dressing percentage of the fresh carcass (50.15 ± 1.71 %) had the offspring of the sire No. 5., the lowest value (48.65 ± 0.55 %) had the ram lambs of the sire No. 1, however the differences were insignificant. From the results achieved it appears that statistically significant differences (p < 0.5) showed the weight of flank of the carcass in the ram lambs of the sires No. 3. and No. 5. When evaluating the percentage share of the individual parts of the ram lamb carcass the significant differences of the share of neck and flank percentage were found (p <().() 5)
