DRIP IRRIGATION IN ISRAEL
MICHAEL V. BOHÁČEK
Abstract
The growing demand for-water and food in Israel requires
higher crop production. In an arid and semi-arid climate of Israel, reclaiming
of desert lands is a way to increase agricultural production. To make this production
more effective, new water-sparing methods of irrigation, e.g. drip irrigation,
are being investigated to avoid problems with salinisation of soils and other
undesirable effects, leading to worsening soil quality, as well as to adjust
the irrigation to the individual requirements of the water-soil-plant relationship.
