LADISLAV KOKOSKA
Abstract
Eleutherine subaphylla is a perennial herb of the
family Iridaceae tubers of which have been traditionally utilized in popular
phytotherapy of many nations of the world. No significant antimicrobial effect
was found of the ethanol extract prepared from basal tubers of plants grown
in Czech Republic against following bacterial strains: Escherichia coli ATCC
25 922, Listeria monocytogenes ATCC 7644, Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27 853,
Salmonella enteritidis ATCC 13 076, Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25928. Test of
antimicrobial effect of cuttings prepared from basal tubers showed, in contrast
to references, very weak inhibition of Staphyloccoccus aureus only.
Key words:
Eleutherine subaphylla, antimicrobial effects, Staphylococcus
