Abstract
Man, particularly in the regions where the species originated,
has used pineapple to vary the human diet ever since its original ‘discovery’
and domestication. However, with the development of world trade, the cultivation
and use of pineapple spread rapidly to other parts of the world. This article
outlines the economic importance of pineapple as a fruit in the word. The fruit
is used for different purposes: fresh fruit for sale on the local market and
for export; canned pineapples within the framework of international trade are
sold mainly in sterilised metal cans that guarantee long-term conservation of
top quality products, which can also be used by consumer without delay; pure
and concentrate juice and others.
